metropolis m: illusies van tijdelijkheid

The current issue of the Dutch magazine metropolis m (01/2026) features an article by Ischa Borger about Cosy Pièro and her collaboration with artist Philipp Gufler.

On the occasion of the exhibition Urning and Urningin. Language and Desire since 1864 curated by Gufler at Nest in The Hague, the article describes how Cosy Pièro continues to inspire him even after her death:

She moved away from large-scale paintings and installations towards works of art with linguistic significance. ‘You can perhaps remove all the material resources needed to create larger sculptures,’ says Gufler, ‘but you cannot take away the artists‘ words’. For the exhibition at Nest, Gufler has installed a number of her later works, such as ‘Ich liebe nur die Illusion’ (2012). For this work, Pièro has claustrophobically squeezed the handwritten sentence (I only love the illusion) between two blue squares. It characterises the play with humour and fears in her use of language.”

Philipp Gufler is searching for Cosy Pièro’s works for his forthcoming video installation.
